Born in 1982 in Innsbruck, Austria, Lucas Norer is an artist who lives and works in both Vienna and Innsbruck. His work is characterized by an interdisciplinary approach that explores auditory themes, including the production and consumption of music, sound, noise, and silence, and their intersections with social, political, architectural, and artistic contexts. Through extensive research and meticulous production processes, Norer creates audio-visual installations, objects, and public art projects.
Norer graduated from the University of Art & Design Linz in 2011. Since then, he has exhibited his work in various prestigious venues, such as Lentos Kunstmuseum Linz, Landesmuseum Ferdinandeum Innsbruck, Das Weisse Haus Vienna, Kunstpavillon Innsbruck, Galerie 5020 Salzburg, Moscow International Biennale for Young Art, and EX3 Centro Per L’Arte Contemporanea in Florence.
Lucas Norer is the winner of the European-Soundart-Award 2014 and Theodor-Körner-Prize 2015. In 2016 he received the Braunschweig Projects scholarship for Sound art at Hochschule für Bildende Künste Braunschweig. His works are part of the art collections of the Republic of Austria, City of Vienna and the Province of Tyrol.
In addition to his solo work, Lucas Norer collaborates with the artist collective FAXEN.
